I began attending FCC in the early 1980’s. As a family, we were looking for a church that offered a variety of activities and opportunities for children as well as a meaningful worship experience. We found that at FCC. All of our sons attended the scouting program, enjoying making lifelong friends through weekly meetings, camp-outs and extended trips. Throughout the years, as life brought many unexpected challenges, my church family has remained a constant source of encouragement and friendship. I continue to be active in our children’s ministry with the knowledge that our future rests in the hands of our youngest members. I am grateful for all those who give of their time and talents to work with our youth in our Sunday School and Treehouse Treasures programs.

I joined FCC Leavenworth because… Since Felicia and myself are from different religious backgrounds and we were good friends with the Eulers, it was a good fit. A good middle ground for us to worship together with a loving and accepting congregation.

I belong because FCC is family. There are several people within the congregation who are legally bound to call me family, but I am talking of the more broad definition. I define family as the people who support you through all seasons. FCC has truly met that definition. There is no other group I would rather be with in regular worship, fellowship and service. I am proud to be part of a congregation which is known and recognized because of our service in the community.

The reason I belong to First Christian Church has evolved over the years. It started out as a place where all my friends would go for youth group, lock-ins and other fun events. Then it became a safe space for me when my anxiety was overwhelming. Now as an adult, I know I belong to FCC because of how we love people. We love people in how we pray for them, in all our out-reach and just being there for people. FCC has always been there for me and my family. I know my life and my faith would be remarkably different without FCC.

Approximately 17 years ago, I walked into the First Christian Church to attend a funeral. It immediately felt like I walked into a home, it felt comfortable and was almost like getting a hug from God. The very next Sunday I visited the service for the first time and had many folks welcome me into the fold. Of course I knew Joye Mullins, Deanna McKeel, Ruth Kenton, and Fran Gast from working at Fort Leavenworth and that helped as well. That same Sunday afternoon I received a phone call from Ginger Young asking if she and Vic could come visit for just a few minutes. They arrived, thanked me for visiting and asked if I had any questions about FCC. They only stayed about 15 minutes but the impact of that visit is still with me. Both Ginger and Vic have remained very special people in my life. That is when I knew I had found my Church home. Everyone is so warm and welcoming in this church, if I miss a Sunday, the whole week just doesn’t go right.
